Stacey Dee: My Musical Resume

Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Julia Roberts. Some actresses have that unknown magical quality that lights up the screen and steals your heart. What these ladies do for movies, Stacey Dee does for music. And her nearly fatal horse riding accident just adds to her 'big screen' appeal. She mesmerizes with a “vulnerable tenderness” and “a penetratingly kind vocal style,” as one online music critic wrote. Stacey’s emotional melodies, poetically honest lyrics, and shimmering vocals join with magical production rewarding the listener with an experience for the mind, soul and spirit. The performances on the CD, are organic, energetically intimate, and radio ready. Stacey has won numerous awards including being a semi-finalist in the vocal and band categories at the GMA Music in the Rockies event in Estes Park, CO; a vocal finalist in the Daywind Exalting Him National Talent Search; and a songwriting finalist at the GMA Academy event. Stacey's co-written songs 'Spin' and 'Longing' has been played on prime-time tv shows including "The Hills" and MTV2. Stacey has been captivating live audiences from the Flatirons Theatre in Boulder, Colorado to Eddie's Attic in Atlanta, Georgia and receiving radio play across the nation on stations such as WJBY in Gadsen, AL; KPRO in Riverside, CA; WCPC in Houston, MS; WHEZ in Hartsville, SC; KPAN in Hereford, TX and many more. She has opened for Grammy nominated singer/songwriter Katie Herzig; she has been interviewed and the featured artist numerous times on AM 670 KLTT in Denver, CO ; and she was the featured artist in The Nooze magazine of Atlanta, GA .  Stacey has also started speaking at women's events, incorporating her music as she shares her life story and is currently booking for Winter and Spring speaking and singing gigs.  Stacey sells close to 100 cds a month at her live shows and online. Her music has spanned the seas and leaped across boarders via internet radio, social networking sites like Myspace and Facebok, and online sales garnering fans from such places as Mexico City, Canada, the UK, and the Netherlands. This timeless, beautiful and talanted artist has a way of capturing the soul with her music, her words, and her story.  With a perspective that seems to be outside of herself and inclusive of all humanity, Stacey gently opens the door to the heart and mind of her listeners and makes an impression that is remembered for a lifetime.

Stacey Dee takes a faith and love of music into a pop/rock area that reminds us of both Christian artist Amy Grant with the vocal innocence and intimacy of Sarah M. Her latest CD, "Learning to Love", is an adult picture into the confusion of life and love and how all of it whirls around spiritual certainty and assessed doubt. She sings in "2003", 'I'm learning to trust you with the things that I fear in the aftermath of a really rough year'. In a single song, Dee has the uncanny talent of touching nearly every person who's found difficulty and still look for answers. Musically, the supportive cast (including producer Michael G. Binder) are spot-on pros - with a product that sounds right and real. We love the guitar work on the CD - and the opening to "Almost There" crosses the line of candy pop and works into a rock Merchant vibe that works. The performances, not least of which Dee's vocals, are organic, live, and radio ready. In the title track, which hits as sixth, "Learning to Love", Dee again reminds us of those before her - in this case U2. .interesting guitar Edgy work and a keyboard percussive delayed sound effect that occupies the right channel in the 2nd verse is cool. She sings, 'i'm learning to love, to breathe til I'm gone, learning to take without taking away, learning to give even when i can't stay. .learning to love'. Guitar work by Binder is perfect. Track 7, "Right Time" begins with a percussive repetitive guitar riff, deep trance bass, Roland 707 cymbal sounds, backward masking, and a sweet textured vocal from Dee. The song's another breezy reminder of what the record holds - well written pop tunes centered around Dee's vocals and an orchestration of guitar parts that fit the effort like a glove. The contemporary Christian message is barely noticeable - artistic and unobtrusive - the equivalent of one confident in her faith enough to lay off hitting anyone over the head. Musically, instead, we are caressed by the ear during a finer trip within the final track, "This is Love" - our favorite on the record.
Stacey Dee's "No Words" CD from 2001 begins with "The One I Love" - and the guitar oriented production that dominates her most recent CD establishes itself immediately in this lush and musically compelling opening track. The vocal delivery by Dee is that of vulnerability and tenderness. Her second track, "I Cannot Rest", takes an acoustic piano turn in a dedicated ballad to her faith. She sings, 'what is this feeling deep inside, is it something I should hide, or is it you calling me to step out into the light". Track 5, "Beautiful", utilizes a percussion groove that establishes the tune early and Dee again showcases her vocal strength in layering vocals. Single strat guitar lines accentuate the production. The overall message is clearly her Christian background as each tune, in some way, uplifts the faith that inspires her artistry here. Track 8, "Say You Love Me", is a musical meditative track that focuses on what can be described as a aural painting of contemplation. It moves less in a pop AC area and comes across as a beautiful composition of prayer. The final track, "Bend Down the Heavens", strikes a more serious tone in appropriate minor key that covers pain and sacrifice within a testimony of love. Dee sings, 'bend down the heavens, rock me in your arms, dance till the skylights lose the stars, whisper your love, carry me softly home'. The writing is brilliant in that the musical movements, albeit minor and haunting for the most part, hit a major chord of resolution with the phrase 'carry me softly home'. The musical device communicates triumph and establishes an anthem-like experience to the listener. Overall the record is a fine AC/pop contemporary Christian effort that places the focus on Dee's penetrating kind vocal style, soft rock guitar based production, and convincing spiritual communication.
